In our reviews, there have not yet been robot vacuum cleaners with a self-cleaning function. Fixing and talking about iRobot Roomba i7+!
Equipment and design
The first thing we see is a branded box, which succinctly outlines all the functionality of the device. We open and see the device, and with it: a battery, a charging station with a garbage extraction function, a HEPA filter, a trash bag, a side brush, a virtual wall, a warranty card and an instruction manual.
Here’s how the virtual wall works:
- The IR beam draws a border that prohibits the robot from moving beyond it.
- The IR beam circles an invisible area inside which the device is forbidden to be.
If you are familiar with other models of iRobot vacuum cleaners, you will notice the following trend: all devices look strictly and concisely. The case is made of black plastic, and on its upper part there is a control panel of three main buttons. Above is also a camera that performs a navigation function. It is she who scans and analyzes the room for the correct movement of the device.
The trash bin is built into the side area of the robot, along with the soft touch bumper.
Below you can see one side and central brush, which is a rubber roller, two wheels and a swivel roller.
Functional Features about iRobot Roomba i7+
The suction power in the new version has been increased to 33W, which is one of the best indicators in the robot vacuum cleaner market. This means one thing: the vacuum cleaner effectively copes with any pollution on completely different surfaces, be it a laminate or a carpet.
The design, consisting of a side and a central brush, allows the device to collect not only dust and debris, but also deal with pet hair.
The filtration system capable of destroying up to 99% of harmful bacteria cannot be left without attention.
The robot performs cleaning in several modes at once:
- Auto mode
- Programming cleaning in a specific room
- Spot mode
It is most convenient to control the device by downloading the official application. In it, you can also view a map of the room, monitor the current cleaning, program cleaning in certain rooms, and much more.
Navigation is carried out using VSLAM using an optical camera. The device easily builds a map of the premises, taking into account all the features of your home. iRobot Roomba i7+ can store several maps at once and even correctly identify rooms. This allows you to select the desired format and cleaning mode for the device.
How does iRobotRoombai7+ differ from other representatives of the premium segment?
The main innovation is the self-cleaning system. It is possible due to the presence of a special bag in the docking station. Its volume is thirty times that of the dust container. After completing its duties, the gadget will return to the base for recharging. The fun begins there: the charging base will start the process of pumping out the garbage accumulated in the dust collector. This happens through a hole in the robot itself.
Is the iRobot Roomba i7+ worth the money: the final verdict
- dry cleaning
- dust container 1 l
- fine filter included
- smartphone control
- battery life: 75 min
- weekday programming
- WxDxH: 34x34x9.20 cm
- type of sensors: optical
We will immediately designate the price of the presented device – 74,5 dollars. The number is big enough. With all this, there are significant disadvantages that are simply not comparable with the declared cost: the lack of a wet cleaning function, only one side brush, the high cost of replaceable bags for unloading garbage from the dust collector (about 18$ for three units), high noise level during self-cleaning.
The premium segment is rich in powerful and advanced robotic vacuum cleaners. We recommend that you consider models that are not inferior in technical terms to our participant, for example, Okami U100 or Okami U90.
